Mahindra is looking into different hybrid engine options for its SUV range, including strong hybrids and range extenders.
According to reports, the company is working on a strong hybrid version of the XUV 3XO, with the project going by the name S226. This hybrid SUV could launch in 2026 and might use a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine combined with a hybrid system, though exact details are still unknown.
Mahindra is also thinking about using range extender hybrid systems in its upcoming electric SUVs. These systems are being developed on the INGLO platform.
Two new models, called M130 and M330 for now, are being planned. They will mainly run on electric power but will also have a small petrol engine that acts as a generator to charge the battery and increase driving range.
Mahindra is expected to decide in the next 6 to 8 months whether to launch these range extender models. If approved, the company could produce around 40,000 to 50,000 units per year.
